1. Friends of the Bexar County Child Welfare Board:
If you don't
have time to volunteer, but you want to donate funds to help abused children, you can give to us at Friends of BCCWB. As a member of the Bexar County Child Welfare Board, I can tell you that we use donated
funds on necessary, tangible items for abused and neglected children. Among other things, the money we raise is used to support
the Heart Gallery of San Antonio (see below) and the monthly Adoption Days at the Bexar County Court House. We also provide cribs,
clothing, food, medication, toys, and much more to the children who need it most in our community.
If you would like to help us, you can write a check to:
Friends of
the Bexar County Child Welfare Board.
Please mail it to:
5150 Broadway #434 San Antonio, TX 78209
I promise that every penny you send goes directly to helping abused
children in San Antonio.
2. CASA (Child Advocates of San Antonio):
I started my work with children over 10 years ago as a CASA case worker in Chicago. This is by far the most important volunteer work you can do for abused and neglected children. My dream would be for every child in the system to have a CASA volunteer. As a CASA, you represent the best interests of your assigned child, or children, in court. You are their VOICE. More often than not, family court judges will weigh your opinion heavier than any other person in the court room.
I encourage you to visit the CASA website to learn more about this
wonderful organization:

3. Adopt-A-Caseworker:
This is a wonderful program for families or individuals who may want to help provide tangible items to abused children; and may also want to directly work with a Child Protective Services Caseworker. Once can "adopt" a caseworker, you are available to them should they need emergency items for abused children. Most CPS caseworkers spend money out of their own pocket for emergency items when a child is removed from their home. You can
help these caseworkers by providing financial help for anything from a jacket or blanket to a car seat or pack-n-play. You help when you can. You may also be able to go with your caseworker to deliver food or necessities if you would like to see the effects of your generosity first hand.
If you are interested in adopting a caseworker, please contact Kathy Hill at Child Protective Services: kathy.hill@dfps.state.tx.us or 210.337.3425
4. Rainbow Room:
The Rainbow Room is located at Child Protective Services and is, quite literally, a storage room for supplies for the children who are admitted into the system. The Rainbow Room provides everything from toothbrushes, hair brushes, soap, underwear, clothing, school uniforms, shoes, and jackets to toys and food. The Rainbow Room is a wonderful opportunity for corporations to make donations of unused items. Or, you can make a financial donation and supplies will be purchased.
If you are interested in donating to the Rainbow Room, please contact Mary Lou Stelzig at Child Protective Services:
